157 is an odd record. It is a 1964 reissue of the first Oz release on the
Viking label (see above). The original release VS 32 was a No.1 hit on
23rd. July 1960 for 1 week and then topped the charts for two weeks
on 20th. August 1960. This is unique to Oz. It was reissued as VS 158 in
NZ.
(VS 157 in NZ was Dinah Lee's "The Blue Beat"). The matrix number scratched on the vinyl MX 16487 & 16488 making it a Festival pressing & what is also intriguing is that it has the NZ release number on the vinyl 158xx & 158xx - the label shows VS 157xx. Viking issued the record again in New Zealand as VS 239. |
