Dot Records was founded in 1951 by Randolph (Randy) C. Wood and Gene Nobles
in Gallatin, Tennessee. The company moved to Hollywood, California by summer
1956. Randy Wood sold Dot Records to Paramount Pictures in 1957 for three
million dollars. He stayed as the President of the label until 1968,
when he left and founded Ranwood
Records with Lawrence Welk. In 1968, Gulf+Western bought Paramount
Pictures. Early in 1974, Dot Records was sold to ABC Records and became
ABC-Dot Records.
At the end of 1977, the Dot label was discontinued. In the UK, Dot's products initially was releasd on Decca's London label. |
