Sun
Records was founded in 1952 by Sam Phillips in Memphis, Tennessee. The
label was known for giving musicians such as Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins,
Roy Orbison and Johnny Cash their first recording contracts and helping
to launch their careers.
In
1969, producer Shelby Singleton purchased the Sun label from Phillips and
merged his operations into Sun International Corporation.
The
British versions of the Sun label date from this reissue period. In 1977,
reissue specialists Charly Records picked up the rights to Sun. |
