Mel-O-Dy started in July of 1962 as a soul/R&B subsidiary, but by 1965 it had evolved into a country outlet for Motown Records. Some of the initial artists were Lamont Dozier, The Vells (Martha and the Vandellas in disguise) and the Pirates (The Temptations also in disguise). Later established country artists included Bruce Channel and Dorsey Burnette. |
